Default Wraps vs capping for vane repair?

I keep going back and forth whether I want to cap and crest my arrows or just put a wrap and vanes on and will base it on these last two judging criteria. When it comes time to repair lost or damaged vanes which system takes the new vane easier. In my head when it comes time to zip strip the remaining glue either the cap will have to be repainted or the wrap will have to be replaced. Second criteria judged upon is adhesion of the vanes to the material, which is better? Thanks for your time.

I don't usually cap and crest my practice arrows so its not an issue when I have to replace a Blazer. I clean up the old glue and stick a new vane on. I shoot my hunting arrows with broadheads a couple of times each before they go to the woods. I don't shoot groups with the hunting arrows so I shouldn't have to worry about damage from themhitting each other. If the hunting arrows get damaged while passing through an animal,. I don't mind repainting. The weight difference between hunting arrows,( with cap and crest paint), and practice arrows is so minimal that POI isn't effected. Here they are again. These took about 2 hours to make. and it is enjoyable to do.

How many times do you shoot your hunting arrows before the season comes because I was warned by a few to make sure I shoot my hunting arrows plenty to break in the nocks the same as the rest of the group. (how many times is plenty?)

When you do have to repair and you scrape the remaining glue does it damage the paint pretty bad?

Yes, it does scrape the paint up pretty well. I have never heard of breaking nocks in but I've only been bowhunting for 3 years. I generally shoot the hunting arrows with BHs about 10 times each to make sure they are flying well. After that they get put up until its time to hunt. I'll shoot them again just before putting them in my quiver to be sure nothing has changed. I used capped and crested arrows last year and never had any accuracy problems in the field. I killed 3 deer and 7 feral hogs with them last year.

There goes my "envy" thing again. By the way have you tried wraps? I kind of like the traditional hand style old school way of cap and crest but want some comparisons.

Here's 6" wraps. The vanes stick to the wraps better than they do to the bare sahfts (IMO).

Wraps are quick, easy, cheap, and they look good. If you need to replace the fletching they just peel off. I'd behesitant about stripping paint from a carbon arrow, I'd be afraid of the paint stripper delaminating or weakening the carbon.

Never worried about that. I sand them before I fletch, anyways and soak the bare shafts in the solution.....including new shafts. I also re-wrap if I lose a fletching.....stripping the current wrap completely off.......sanding the bare shaft.....and re-applying.

Carbons arrows have a clear coating on them and if you scrape them too hard it will hurt their structural integrity. Thats why I shoot with wrap, there is no scraping or anything like that, I just peel the wrap off and install another. Wraps are theway to go.
