Default Went out to start shooting tonight, wound up punching myself in the face...

I bought a new bag target last night at cabelas and decided to get started shooting tonight...

I got started at fifteen yards, shot 3 sets of 3 arrows, moved to 20 and did the same, moved to 20 and the first shot I got half way drawn and BAM, right in the mouth/cheek [:@]. The a/c/c luckily wound up in the ground ten feet before the target. Upon closer inspection I found my release to be awfully short! Somehow the lock nut backed the threaded rod...

Should I get a new nut and put it back together; use the same nut with lock tite; or get a new release? It is a Tru-Ball Stinger release...Does the threaded rod typically bend? (Mine is bent)

Thanks for any help!

If you like the release and this has not happened before I would put the nut on with Loctite. If you got the extra cash laying around there are alot better releases out there.

I know the feeling Years ago i was using a fletch hunter rope release at a 3-d shoot. Half way through the course i was drawing on a Lion target that stood on a high hill. I still dont know what happened but just as the bow was breaking over it fired sending my arrow into the great beyond and resulted in me punching myself in the nose [:@]I got wobbly legged for a minute and seen stars [X(]Dam i hit hard At least you found your arrow

I'd get a new release and a new technique. Drawing toward your anchor is a great way to punch yourself out if your release fails. Draw toward your shoulder, then after you hit full draw, raise your hand up to anchor. It's a lot easier living with a bruised shoulder than with a busted mouth.
