Default Best Wild Hog Hunting trip you ever had?

My wife and I went to South Texas this year hog hunting and had a good time, ended up seeing twohogs and brought back one over three days of hunting. We are planning on booking a trip for this early spring and wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions of places you have been that have been exceptional hunts. We live in CO and are willing to drive to Texas but not much further. With gas prices those piggys become quite expensive.

Do yourself a favor and book a dog hunt. There really isn't anything quite like wading into the middle of a hog/dog fight, tipping the pig over and tying them up by hand. Greatest outdoor activity I've ever been involved in. Not for the faint at heart however.

Is that after you stuck that angry hog with a bowie knife mez? My brother had talked about going on a dog hunt and knifing one, to me that sounded like a great way to lose a finger or something...I'd love to go on one someday but you can rest assured that within archery range is as close as I'm going to get.

Nope, they came out alive. We rarely stuck any.

Damn...that's pretty cool. So what, you just flip them over and hog tie them like a calf? Was it catch and release?

Yes just flip and tie after the dogs are off. We sold them to local buyers. Most go to Europe for meat.

TG, may want to post this in the hogs and exotics section as well. There are some guides on the fourm as well as several that have been on hunts.

Only seeing two hogs in 3 days is a horrible hog trip, IMO. On some of our better hunts, we have seen 40 or more per day, and at times over 100 per day. We had a great no fence place in GA but I am not sure if they are still in business or not. I will try to remember to check on it for you. You will see tons of hogs, but are limited to 2 hogs per 3 day trip.

Thanks guys I will move the post over to hogs and exotics. I am actually looking for a bow hog hunt for this trip might tie them up next time. I grew up on a ranch and was the alley boy for years so I think I might have been kicked around enough but the added danger of a bad attitude piece of pork might be appealing.

RobinAim Low-if you do remember the place let me know, we both had fun but were obviously dissappointed by the numbers which just motivates us more to get out there and find some more.

Check with Kanga or the Rev about a place here in Tx called Sycamore Creek. Its a hog place that is bowhunt only.
