I camoflauge every stand I own - I typically spray pain them this time of year and then leave them outside for several weeks - before using them for hunting
I believe the broken outline helps conceal the stand and also helps hid from others in the case of ladders
who else does this or I am being to anal

You're not anal at all. You can NEVER pay too much attention to detail! I usually put hockey tape on my stands or anything else that I think couldcreate a noise issue.

I cover the surface 90-95% with a 'base coat'- whatever color you decide; flat gray, brown, etc. I'll usually go with a lighter color.(think Skyline camo)
Then I use other colors(brown, gray, touch of green), and just kind of 'stripe' it. Pull some leaves from the yard to use as stencils to get some diff. shapes.
I don't really look at it as being art, I'm just trying to add some color.
I only paint my stands when they need it and mine needs it now. I'm going to go over it with some of that rubberized paint that I have to deaden the noise as well.
