Default Try this. You will be suprised!

next time you go to a deer show look at the deer heads quickly and guess it's score. I bet you will be suprised as to how far off you are sometimes.

I've tried that the last time I went to the Deer / Turkey expo in Lansing Michigan and your right... I was off by a big marginbut I did learn something from that.

I use to do that as a kid when I went to the P&Y conventions with my parents. I got pretty good at it as a kid. For some reason the last 5 years or so I've been guessing low on everything now.

I do it most of the time I see a buck dead or alive.

There was a guy over on AT that would post a pic of a mount and have people guess the score. Heposted a different buck every day and would give the score of the buck from the day before.

They did that over on the Deer & Deer Hunting website last season also.

Except theirs was a weekly contest, and some of the pictures were pretty awful, but kinda cool seeing how far off you really were.

I have a tendency to miss 5-15" lower than the actual gross.....rather be low than high when guesstimating, so when you tell someone that you saw a "BIG" one they tend to believe you......

I was talking to a taxidermist about this the other day and he said that guys will bring in 100" bucks calling them 140"s all the time.

I'm OK at guesstimating a score. Actually I'm usually a little low. I can do it with typicals, but non-typicals I'm pretty lost with.
