I walked all Friday afternoon, all day Saturday, and 1/2 a day Sunday. I didn't hear or or see a turkey. I saw 2 cow elk, countless mule deer , and 1 black bear. But I never saw a turkey.
THEN, when I finished packing the car on Sunday night, I hit the remote to set the car alarm. Well, when the car horn beeped indicating that the alarm was set....I get a shock gobble from 2 roosted birds about 50 yds from the condo. My mother in law almost died at that time. She found it very funny that I looked for birds all weekend and now, when we're ready to go home here they are. It took all of my self control to not throttle her on the spot. I guess mothers in law get thier reputations for a reason.
So, although I didn't have much luck with turkeys, I had an enjoyable time. Seeing the animals I saw, that I don't have in my home woods, and seeing the beauty of the mountains surrounding Ruidoso, made it a trip worth taking.
The trip was a great family vacation. Carie and Lily and a great time shopping and seeing the sights. Carie also won a few hundred $$ at the nearby casino.
So, all in all with the exception of having the old battleaxe,( mother-in law), with us on the trip it was good times for me and mine.
i'll be back after Rios in texas the next couple of weekends.
