RE: suriname pics are up
I've walked through several types of rainforest in two different countries and what I've learned so far is when you don't mix the walking and looking around it's a pretty safe place.....it's one big pharmacy, supermarket and DIY store in an indian's eye...
And I feel fortunate to have been shown around by those who use it's resources.....
The chances you get bitten by a snake, jaguar or run over by pingos ( wild pigs ) is less than getting hit by a car in any major city.
I heard a story from one of the guides of a woman who went of the trail to photograph a bird and she got lost, they found her the next day, with only a few bugbites.
A good piece of advice they give you, when you should get lost,is to find a peddle tree or "telephone" tree and just start hammering on it, this makes such a low noise it carries far and wide and gives experienced jungle people a good location to find you.....and they are everywhere....
