Default Really??? Right out in the open (Turkeys)

I'm going to hunt my newly acquired family land this afternoon. My cousin called last night to tell me he saw the turkeys out in front of an old tobacco barn last night when he was feeding cattle.

There's a field there.....(I'll try to post a pic)....and I'm wondering if I should do exactly what the DB guys tell us to....and set up right in the middle of the field. My inclination has always been to use a field edge.....but I'll defer to you guys who know these things. I could probably set up under the canopy of the barn, too.

Whatcha think?

Edit:

Here's an aerial photo. The barn is directly below the marker. I also think hugged up against that "bush" looking thing out in front of the barn might be OK.

Go right out in the field.
Won't bother the turkeys one bit.

In my experience, turkeys react much differently to blinds than deer. They don't see to care in the least. I've killed several of them out of a blind that wasn't concealed in any way just in the middle of the field. The 22lb bird I got last season with a bow I was close to the field edge but several feet away from the actual edge.

Really, put it in the open. I didn't believe it until I saw it. They will walk right up to and around the thing like it wasn't even there. They will look in the windows and it still doesn't bother them.

Ground blinds are an absolute curse for turkeys.

Where are hey roosting/coming fromin the afternoon on your photo? If you know, set upon the roosting/comin fromside of that struttingarea where ever he saw em stutting. Those birds should walk right to you and your decoys on a string after leaving the roost. WCL

That's why I'm going up this evening, WCL. Rob/PA and I will be hunting this farm on Friday. If nothing else.....I'll maybe get o find out where they're roosting for Friday.

I might just set up one hen and not call......and just make it a scouting excursion.

I think you have your answer

It really doesn't bug themone bit. And I'm really not sure why?

Last year we had two blinds out in the middle of a field filming when I shot my bird.

I agree!! but it does make me wonder why. Especially from something that relies on it's eyesight so much.

I heard a pack of coyotes ordered a bunch of Double Bulls!!

Poor Turkeys!
