Some of you will remember a post I made a few weeks ago about the failing health of my grandmother. Well, she's actually doing a little better, but she's never going to be......."better"......if you know what I mean.
BUT...tonight, I get a phone call. My step-grandfather passed away in his sleep last night. He is my older step brother's grandfather, and I remember when we were kids he would get us up REALLY early in the morning to run lines on the river. I've seen some seriously large flat heads landed by him......The man loved river fishing. He was a hunter as well, quail hunting being his absolute PASSION in life. I've shot many a quail over his dogs through the years.
Well, as I grew older, married, and had children of my own......I didn't see much of him. I mean, even as a kid I knew he wasn't REALLY my grandpa, if you can understand that. He never made me feel unwelcome or anything like that....I dunno, it's kind of hard to explain. But, he never made me feel unwelcome or unwanted. I was never made to feel like a tag along (by him anyway, now my step brother on the other hand, made it quite apparent he didn't like me going along)......
Served in the Air Force during WWII as an airplane mechanic, absloutely brilliant w/ machinery, and later settled as a farmer. He was a great man, and he's going to be missed.
He went to bed last night, and just didn't wake up. I guess that's a pretty good way to go. I feel bad for his wife, waking up like that this morning. That's got to be just aweful.
Anyway, remember the family in prayers if you would. I, and they, certainly appreciate it.
