With recurve I will go 25 yards
With Long bow I will go 20 yards
With Osage stick I will go 15 yards and stretch 20 depending on the situtation.

If the season opened in the morning I'm golden out to about 18 yards! I want them in closer than that, I know I can get them in closer and looking forward to it. Its not that I'm not confident at my said yardage I just want to get them within spitting distance for me as a hunter! I guess I want to test my skills as a hunter! I do the same with my Flintlock, I had a doe at 11 paces but got a flash in the pan, twice! She had NO idea what was going on, I loved it!

For me its 20 yards on the average. Some days its less then that. It all really depends on how I'm shooting that particular day. Every time before I go out hunting I shoot a dozen arrows or so. 90% of the time I'm golden to 20 yards, other times I'm not and 15 yards is all the farther I'll allow myself to shoot. There has been times when I was deadly at 25 yards, I've never taken a 25 yard shot but the choice was there if I really felt good about it. My longest shots have been 22 yards twice. Both times it was at a doe walking, I never stopped her either time and I drilled both of the doe's, double lung shots! If it don't feel right the least bit, don't take the shot! I've passed up deer at 10 yards because something didn't feel right when I drew my recurve back. Its your instincts telling you something!! Believe in them, I know its made me a much better decision maker with my shots.

Too many times!! I've had numerous opportunities at 130" to 150" bucks between 20 yards and 30 yards that I let go by being It was a tad out of my range. I can recall about 4 different bull elk that were just a tad out of range also, thats hunting for ya though! Chances are my walls would look allot nicer if I was shooting a compound. I'm not pissy about it though, thats what happens when you shoot Traditional bows and you better except it for what it is that your range is going to be allot closer. I've said this in other threads that I have to become a better deer hunter in stand placements being I shoot a recurve. Its a challenge getting these animals close and I love it.

You bet, as long as I get my ass up early enough. I think I'd feel naked if I didn't shoot before I went hunting in the morning or night. Kind of a routine I guess.

I hunt state land here in Wi almost daily, a lot in the AM. I guess I'll have to shoot before I leave the house, I have a 45 minute drive to my spot. I was wanting to do the same, make it a routine! Thanks!

No problem Joe. Do what you think you need to do and all should be well for yourself. Everyone is different on there approaches I guess, ours are similar so we can relate on it.
