I have been told that a doe will remain "ready" to breed for 48 hrs. That being said (If in fact that is a fact), let's say we have 80 acres of land. The does number, say, 50 for the acreage. The bucks number, say, 10 (including button bucks). Will all of the does be bred within this scenario. If you think so, explain. If you think not, explain. Just hypothetical thinking here anyway.
Thanks, LT

Greg, that is an average of 5 does per buck average. Will 1 buck breed or have the chance to breed as many as 5 does per breeding season? Not doubting you at all, just seems a stretch. By the way, how many times will a doe cycle before not having another chance at being bred?
Thanks, LT

Heck on that small a parcel they could just do a bunch of three and foursomes. They'll certainly be close enough.
Seriously, though.....No way less than 10 bucks breed that many does. Think about it....if he stays with one for 48 hours.....breeding her over and over.....
I just don't see it being remotely likely.

Sure they will, if not the first time they'll cycle again.
Just don't see it....That's a LOT of breeding for a very few bucks.
Let's say8 come into heat at one time......and the bucks (all the breeding age....or non BB's) are busy for 2 days at a time. The next 8 would have to stagger every coupe days......
I'd love to know for sure.....but I just don't see it happening.

Ya know...if it's as bad as you say.....I'm not sure they won't try. But I'm also not sure they're capable. I assume that they would be able.....since we know the does are......and with the out of whack ratio you cite....I suppose they would (breed).
Still need an answer as to how many times will the doe cycle if not bred? Anyone? I have heard twice, but I think some will maybe not cycle at all. Is that uncommon?

I guess another viable question would be... How long will a buck continue to breed 1 doe if other does in the immediate area are ready?

If he left her while she was hot.....(BIG "if")....I think she'd have another suitor in short order.
Would that then make it possible for 1 buck to breed, say 10 does during a 48 hr time span? Or do all the does in a given area come into heat at he same time?
