Default Has this happened to you

Im sure most of us know the saying, Never pass a deer on the first day that you'd shoot on the last. It has happened to me twice, both times I ended up with a doe the last day of season. The only good thing about this is that the buck will most likely be bigger next season.

Tell some stories guys, Its always good to hear about the one that got away

Oh yeah, consider yourself lucky that it has only happened twice. I can't tell you how many times this has happened to me, and I was hunting family land that they only allow you one buck a year. So me being picky and always having the big idea that this was going to be the super season for the bigger one. You my friend are not alone in this one. I am sitting here trying to remember one specific time and like I said it has happened more than a couple and not one time seems to stick out more than the other (they were all stupid)........

that never happens to me! because if im unwilling to shoot it day 1, im unwilling to shoot it day 124. I have standards / goals going into a season and I don't settle for less, that means being skunked probably more than most guys ever have been, or willing to, and it is frustrating, but you cant shoot that big guy if you shoot a little one. when i went bear hunting, a 6 day hunt I didnt shoot til day 5, i was the first guy to ever wait that long, 2 bear hunt btw.....day 5 and 6 I got lucky and shot 2 big bears! In wyoming i shot a antelope day 1 and while I did think he was big, turned out not to be, so passing him up wouldn't have been bad, theyre hard to judge, but still, take a doe if you can......I guess your statment....sure if i saw that big buck day 1 id shoot him, though as the season goes on my standards dont diminish. So thats my point, konw what you want from day 1 and stick to it! if youd take that 4pt buck the last day, take him when he appears, some guys ge tlucky.....but most guys /successful guys who consistently take trophies I find, have high standards and will risk going home empty handed and probably hav emore often than most others.

My father for instance, has shot 3 bucks in his lifetime, the smallest being his 1st bowkill, scored 151" gross, he's hunted more than 3 seasons, probably 10 or so, he's taken does as well.

Consider yourself lucky that you even get to say that! I haven't been fortunate enough, so fortunate that a 3" spike will look like a trophy to me and it's going down!

It happened to me lasy year. I've been holding out for a particular 12 point for the last couple of years, so I've passed on a few good bucks in the process. I wont say that I regret it though. I had him inside 20 yards twice last year .The first time, he came in and just lingered over my "off" shoulder for about 5 minutes, I sware I thought hewas gonna hear my heart beating! The second time he was at warp speed with his nose halfway up a does butt. I'm not sure if I can hold out much longer, there's a lot of big bucks here in OH, but then again, I like to think I'm a contributing factor as to why they get so damn big [8D]

You know, I'm thinking that I could take out some of those pesky smaller bucks for you?

I personally detest that saying.

With a full season ahead of me, I'll be pretty darn picky and optimisticthe first day.

Now bring on the last day and I still have my tag and say a 100" Buck walks by..my mood will dictate his future, not what I did, or didn't do, 4 months ago!
