I read an interesting article on fenced in deer recently. The article said a tract of land had been fenced.....and the side-effect was (they weren't trying to achieve this)......deer were enclosed.
After a few years.....they decided to drive them out. So....they took down a section fo the fence and did a walking deer drive.
Anyone else read this article (D&DH)? Interesting what happened.
Well I know of a tree farm that had an eight foot fence surrounding it and the deer always found a way to get in. Never saw them jump it, but I don't of any other way that they got in. It was comical.

I have heard deer can jump a ten footer but have only witnessed about a 7' jump. And after seeing how they did that with ease i wouldn't doubt a 10' jump!

I've seen a deer jump an 8' high fence. People call them deer proof fence; they should be called deer retardant fences. I did see a deer in a research pen jump about 8-10' from a stand still.
I've never really witnessed any "high jumps", but I've witnessed them walk around finding low or down spots like Rob mentioned. They will go out of their way to be able to go thru or under.
I've read deer will jump a 8' fence easily. The author said if this fenceseems to tall then try erecting the fence at an angle outward because deer do not like jumping a fence that has a difficult landing. The author suggested a fence angled outwardat a100-110 degree angle. We built a fence around our garden with this tactic and have had great success.
