Im going on my first bear hunt with a bow and was wondering if you shoot them like a whitetail (right behind the shoulder on the lower third of the body) or aim farther foward, back, lower or higher?

The only thing that is tricky is the thickness of the bears hair. The bottom of the chest might be more hair than anything, same as the bears back, thick. Behind the shoulder and about mid height and you'll take out the lungs. You'll be in great shape.
I went on a bear hunt last fall with my bow and my guide told me to shoot him right behind the shoulder and center of the body. I did and my bear only went 30 yards. Good luck on the bear hunt.

The coat on a bear is fairly long. Allot of times it can be 3 to 4 inches long so don't let it fool you on where you think the bottom of the bears tummy actually is. The lungs on a bear are a tad smaller then that of a deer but don't aim any different then where you would aim on a deer. I've shot my share of bear and I've aimed just like I was aiming on a whitetail and most shots have been double lung hits. Good luck.

Right on Rob. Right behind the shoulder and halfway up/down on the body.
Yep, mid body, not lower third. Last hunt I went on, I really took my time, planted the pin right in the pocket for a hear shot and let it fly. Hit where I was aiming, and got nothing but hair. You can watch the video and see the arrow looking for all the world like it went into the bear, but that hair is just so long.
This is good toknow because everything I've been told is to hug it right up tight to the shoulder because a bears vitals are smaller and a little farther forward. I haven't as of yet had a chance to hunt bears to test it out though. Someday I'll get lucky enough to hunt one.

Don't hug the shoulder anymore then a whitetail. Your asking for it otherwise. Aim just like you were aiming at a whitetail. Trust me it works.
