Default I put this on the traditional post too

Hey guys...wanted to show you my osage stick that I have also been successful with...even with flint heads...Its good to throw a little trad into our technical lives.......My uncle makes stick bows...and does a sweet job....

She is 72 pounds and she makes the shoulders ache....even at 33 years old...but I still love her....she was born with character...and she still lays deer on their side at 20 yards with a good shot...

Brian

That is so cool. If I owned it I would want to display it not hunt it. But what a rush it would be to stick a deer with it.

Sweet looking bow Brian!! I've carved a few (self bows) back in the day but never hunted with them, they were a little on the light side. I may do this again this coming summer and maybe give my recurve the year off this fall. I just gotta figure out what brand of tree I should pick on when I try this again. Any Ideas?

Schulty,

We try to pick osage and let it cure...it has been hard for us to find a perfect stave...usually 2 of 5 are good shooters...Not in the biz of selling these but my uncle has sold a few on ebay raising money for a bear hunt he went on...

I swear I've seen professional guys at trad shows refuse to sign my uncles bows because they said he has great talent and he should sign his own...

If you wanted one to hang on your walland harvestwith you could get one at a silly price....built for you....you would have to email me and let me know....not out to make a living selling sticks...just shows pics of my passion...you should have one hanging though...they look pretty next to the mounts..have faith gentlemen...I still sleep next to my Hoyt...Please have some love...

That is really a cool looking bow! What are some other types of wood you can use to make your own bow?

Most all hardwoods will make a bow. Some woods like different designs than others. Osage is realy tolerant of design. And its tough. Hickory is used alot too.

Alright, that does it![>:] I'm going to go get a piece of wood and get to work. I've been thinking it's time to make another and you just pushed me over the edge, Michigan.

Darn nice bow ya got there!

Yep, hickory is really good for a beginning bowyer. It'll let you get by with a lot of mistakes. Yew, mulberry, oak (red is okay but white's better), ash, yellow locust, pecan, walnut and maple all make good bows.
