Buck's home range....Greg's post got me thinking...
I've been forutnate enough to take 2 good deer representative for my area......from one spot (killed them less than 40yds from one another).
If a mature buck's home range (according to D&DH Mag.) gets smaller and smaller as he ages......what's the prognosis for the area I mentioned?
I have seen (actual sighting) 2 deer that are 3.5yrs or older in this area. They are now dead. I have trailcam photos of one other deer from this area.
Is it likely another deer (juvenile) will move into this area and make it his home range? I'm sure it will happen eventually.....there's too many ladies for it not to. But a mature buck ......if he's already established his home range.....according to the article....he won't budge very easily.
It's my theory that I'm likely due for a "lapse" (if you can imagine) in mature buck sightings for possibly a year or more......or until one of the juveniles establishes himself in this area.

I say yee, not worry about the bucks around your house, unless you happen to catch one, Keep wackin the does, and put some new focus on your new place, theres no telling whats roamin through there.

Well kinda depends on lots of things. Maybe a Buck has developed into a Bruiser a couple parcels over and the dominant buck in that area has to find a new kingdom.
I seem to remember another pretty good buck you had pics of last year in your area. What if he puts on another 15-20 inches?
I think the odds are greater of some good buck taking over the area than not..after all it holds what they need for survival. Food and Chicks!

i would imagine that you will have a new buck make this his home range.
I'd bet on it! I have taken several nice bucks on a 40 acre spotI hunt. There are always Bucks there. I hunted it approx. 12 to 15 days this year and saw over 50 bucks out of my treestand. Some were repeats, but many were not.

I'm thinking you probably have other mature bucks there but just don't know it. Just because they aren't on camera doesn't mean there not there.
I agree! I set a lot of trail camslast year, and I saw at least 4 Mature bucks out of my stand that were never caught on cams. Trail cams are fun and a great tool, but they don't always tell the whole story.
