If their is a secret to shedding. I would also love to know. (Troy.. Jody..??)
Its a rough business.. looking for sheds. If your 160 doesn't hold the right food source.. whitetails can move a mile or more (much more) to better bedding grounds near a good food source.
If its your very own private ground wait. Get out and walk hard after you are sure most the bone has fallen. Their is no worse thing then walking through miles of woods and kicking up bucks who still are holding antler.
Then start at the basics. Try bedding areas on the southern and eastern faces of hillsides.. areas where deer can get some sun (this is important to a deer in winter for survival). Look in and around every dead fall and small thicket you can find. Even some smaller blocks of CRP can be awesome for antler (once again deer getting sun exposure). Then follow some of these trails back to a nearby preferred food sources and start walking some more.
If you had alot of snow.. the deer will heavily yard up together and most antlers will be concentrated. If you had a lack of snow (especially during the shedding period of the bucks) the sheds will be much more scattered throughout.. since with little snow the deer can browse much more freely on acorns, nuts, and berries that are hidden away under years of leaves scattered throughout the woods.
I could go on forever. But really just walk. Then when your tired go home.. wait a few days and walk it again (repeat this several more times). You will learn alot about your land if you do this.. and you should be able to come up with a few sheds. Just walk thats my secret.[&:]

thanks for all the info!
Ya ive never really walked my land. my family has owned it for around 14 years and there are parts that ive never even stepped foot on until this year because this was my first year of ever deer hunting. Im happy to say im hopelessly addicted and theres no turning back

I know for a fact there are sheds in the "deer sanctuary" but my brother would kick my ass if i was stopping through those woods we've kept just for the deer. I would rather not have any sheds than scare up the matures who have made homes in there.
