Default Whats the average weight of bucks in your area?

In early October I missed the heaviest, biggest rack, buck of my life at 30 yds. I guessed the yardage wrong. He was standing broad side at 30 but he looked to be right at20 yds just by his size. I shot right under him, leaving a few gray hairs on my shuttle T 125.

Come to find out this buck has been on this farm for 6 years and 1 other hunter this year misjudged him at 39 and he was actually at 53yds. I have killed well over a hundred deer in my life so far and I have never seen a buck this big in my 30yrs. For the state of Maryland to have a buck hit 300lbs is big, but this buck is huge. I put him at 400-425lbs. I would say his rack is 135 to 140 but its hard to tell by his body size. My buddys son was hunting one day and that big guy came out about 200yds away, all he could say was it was like watching a sumo wrestler entering the ring. You no its big when his body is a foot longer than any other bucks and a foot wider.

Is there a record on the heaviest buck in the world? I'm sure it was from way up north or somewhere like Kansas or something.

Average size of a mature whitetail buck in Southeastern VA is probably around 170 live, on the hoof weight.

If somebody tells you they killed one over 200#s in this part of the world... then they didn't kill it here! There are some 200+ deer on the Eastern Shore and in the western/mountains part of the state, but anything over 180 around here is a friggin hog.

Most of mine probably field dressed at about 120-140lbs (I've only shot 1.5 yr olds, although I no longer do, but haven't taken a more mature buck yet). My first deer ever that I shot when I was 12 was a big and weighed in at about 155lbs field dressed (1.5 yr old lol). At our cabin where we weigh all of our deer which gives me more of an idea of average weight, I would say ~115-125lbs field dressed, mostly 2.5yr olds, however this is partially due to habitat and genetics. Our cabin is very rural with little agriculture (we own 1200 acres), and heavy laurel, very little browse, etc. It's a tough life for mountain deer in this area as opposed to down in the valleys where I do most of my hunting.

All weights are field dressed.

1.5 year: 120-130

2.5 year: 150-170

3.5 year: 170-200

4.5+: 200+

The heaviest I have killed weighed 240 field dressed.

I'd have to agree with Mr. jmbuckhunter on the deer I hunt as well.

Only my biggest deer field-dressed out at 232 pounds. But.. I'm a hack.

400lbs? for the love of god...I had a 170 + 10 point at 25 yards here in Michigan...I had my stick bow withZwickey heads at the time (1995)....don't even want to get into the details of what happened....

He was 250 lbs + After I shot him (got down out of my stand)the area he stood in reeked like someone sprayed a gallon of tinks in a 10 yard radius....he was the biggest deer I've ever seen while hunting....
