Default REVIEW ON NEW DROP AWAY ARROW REST

I have had my current bow( Darton Maverick) for a good 12 years now and thoughtI had it tuned as good as i could get it.... but i was wrong.I decided it was time for a new bow ( bear truth 2)and will be buying one later this year when i visit friends in florida.

soI thought it would be a good idea to try new equipment on my current bow to see what the final setup will be, the first item i tried was a Drop away rest by G5Outdoors called the Doty expert 2.

Ichose this particular drop away for a few reasons.

1 no contact with the bow shelf at all so no noise there
2 good placement of rubber dampner to elimate more noise
3 micro elevation adjustment
4 choice of draw string fitting either bus cable or cable slide

first thingI did was take all current measurements off my existing rest which is a tm hunter with micro adjustments and useing theseI was able to set up the new rest in no time at all.

you have a choice of lock pin holes for a grub screw once it is attached and you can see here the micro adjust lock screw on the side as well.

Now the only issue i have with the rest is while trying to set the arrow level you need to use a hex key through a locking pin hole thats holds the rest in the drawn position, ( i found one of the spare tm hunter pins worked better) but it does not hold it fully up so i had to use the other piece of draw string supplied to tie around the rest to hold it up firm. you can see the pin in place in the picture below.

It wasnt a big problem just something that i thought i should mention as when drawn it fits firm into the body of the rest about 1/16th of an inch higher then useing the pin not much but enough to make a big difference in arrow level

to adjust center shot is very easy also, simply loosen the locking button head screw at the end of the roller and turn the roller clockwise to move it right and of course anti to move it left, as i said earlier i took center shot measurement of the tm hunter when in place and used that to get center shoton the new rest.
it also comes with two choices of arrow holder i chose the one that holds the arrow in place but doesnt stop it from riseing easily when drawn.

i adjusted the draw string so that it rises about 1 and a half inches from full draw. You can set this easily by simply lenghtening the string to have itrise later in the draw cycle, or shortening it to have itrise sooner in the draw cycle, this is entirely up to how it works for you but was very easy to do.
Ialso decided to attach it to my cable slide you can just see in the top right of the picture below i use an old style saunders roller cable slide, i have three more of these i use for spare parts if needed, it gives great clearance and is super quite i simply drilled a small hole in the body of the slide and knotted the draw string so it wont pull through

now as i said at the start i was very happy with the tm hunter rest i had been useing for the past 12 years and was getting good grouping, although accasionaly would get a stray arrow the always went left and high, which i always thought was me maybe tourqeung the riser etc and maybe it was.

but after installing the new rest i went and shoot about thirty arrows at about 25 meters and was surprised to see my grouping got better from shooting a 4 inch circle with the tm hunter resti was now getting a 3 inch group easily and not one arrow was going left high, so if i was torqueing the riser in any way the fact that the rest drops out of the way is giving complete clearance to the arrow and stopping what ever effect the tm hunter had on release.

the bow is also at least 50 percent quiter so over all it was easy to setup took about 25 mins and improved my shooting straight away i cant fault it it cost me 129.00 us dollars and was worth every penny.

i am not getting paid for this review but i wouldnt mind of course

below is a link to the companies website if you would like more information
