Being as I get a new bow every year and rarely keep one more than three years I'll tell the truth. I replace the factory strings the day I get the bow with good aftermarket ones and then never again. Most times I shoot a bow no longer than 1 1/2 years. My hunting bows only get shot about 50 shots a year.

When I think they aren't safe anymore. I have a factory string on my bow that is a few years old, but I shoot less in a decade than some folks shoot in a month here.

I make new cables and strings every two years max. If I use shoot my compounds often, ill replace the string and cable about every year. My compounds havebeen shot very little, so the string I put on this year will be good for a few more years. Ive been shooting my trad bows exclusivly since the second week of bow season. So to answer your question, it depends on how many shots you have put on the string, the over all condition of the string, and how well you mantain them.

I think about every two years is average, but that really depends on how often you shoot.
