It"™s 4:30 on an early November morning as I stagger to the shower to begin my perfect day. While most people are still fast asleep, I am trying my best to eliminate all my human odor with Scent Killer soap. Once I am out of the shower I throw on my Scent Lok camo and lace up my boots. Any other day I would be looking for something to eat, but I don"™t want to take the chance of getting any fowl odors on my now scent free body. I need every advantage I can get when trying to fool the nose of a Kansas whitetail.
It"™s now 5:00 and I double check to make sure I have all my gear. I"™ve got my back pack filled with water, power bars, and a bottle of doe in estrus lure. I grab my bow and throw a dip in while I step out the door. It"™s a cool 34 degrees as I walk to my stand guided by the moon light. I walk silently so I do not scare up any of the deer. As I get to the perfect tree over looking a clover food plot, I put on my safety harness and ascend the tree. While waiting for the sun to raise I think about what my plans are for the rest of the day.
As the dawn just begins to break I hear a rustling in the leaves behind me. I grab my bow and nock an arrow. My heart begins to pound out of my chest when I see a huge 150 inch buck nonchalantly eating acorns 20 yards out. Slowly I draw back and wait for him to walk into my shooting lane. I set my sight pin right behind his shoulder and release the arrow. THWACK! It hits its mark perfectly. The buck takes off into the woods and moments later I hear a crash which confirms the perfectly placed arrow. I nearly fall out of the stand because of all the adrenaline pumping through my body."
