Trail Cam Question.......

I have posted similar on the "Tech" board, but not as many readers on that board so I hope you don't mind me posting here...

I'm looking into purchasing a trail cam or two and am getting really mixed reviews on a lot of cams out there. Like anything, trail cams seem to be a product of personal opinion. My delema is simple really...

If I were looking to buy a trail camera that takes good pics, has exceptional battery life, not a history with flash problems, weatherproof for WI weather, and wanted to spend @$100-$200 each, what would you guys recomend....

I ask because most of you guys/gals seem to know your stuff and I really enjoy all of your posts and respect your opinons. (if it sounds like i a sucking up, i'm not...well maybe a little)

Moultrie 3.1 (or the updated version).

I have no experience in those temps....and I only have mine out in the summer.

But I have thousands of images through it....and the batteries last about a month (6v). $5 a month isn't bad.

I concur with GMMAT i have an older version but battery dont last that long for me, but i set mine to take more pics. I bought the recharchable batery and charger....paid for itself. But they say the D40's use D cell batterys and last a lot longer. Probly will be the next kindi get.

moultrie i40... i have two of them. walmart was selling them online for $175 not sure if they still are. ir cam, i get 3 months out of cheap brand batteries ( 6 d cells) i can get some where between 1700/2500 pictures. i think, for the money it is hard to beat. i really use mine. year around. last month i had right at 500 photos. pic time is around 1.5-2 sec. really good when compared to other camera's in there class. hope i was helpful

GMMAT, does that moultrie have the sleep mode feature on it. The moultrie I have now has it and I get quite a few empty pics or ones with half a deer in them. Other than that it takes great pics, just wondering about a upgrade.

I rarely get an empty pic.

I'm not sure if it has a sleep mode (don't know what that is). It has a delay that can be set between 1 and (___?) minutes between pics.

Moultrie M40 (flash) or I40 (infrared). Moultrie got it right with these cams. I have over 5000 pics and videos on a set of batteries and they are still at 65%. They have been at my lease which has experienced a few below zero temps this year (yes it happens in Texas occasionally). Trigger time is very fast and I rarely miss a deer unless he is passing through, very close to the cam and at a good clip.

Only thing I recommend it making sure you have the latest software version or you will get a few white out pics.

My d40s sleep mode is when the camera is inactive for a period of time, it goes into this sleepmode and then needs a activity to start the camera again and then another activity to trigger the shutter.
