Default Effort to find good land

How much effort do you put into finding good hunting land?

Myself, this has been a weakness, but I am getting better at being motivated to find spots I am confident in. I am HORRIBLE when it comes to blindly knocking on doors. I get up the nerve maybe once or twice a year and make a stab at it.
I'm also not that good at "pressuring" people who I feel only half heartedly offer me to hunt thier place out of politeness, but really don't mean it. Maybe I should be more aggressive?

One thing I am growing on is to put the effort into is public land. Yea it gets a bad rap in places, but for me, everyone is even there, and I don't have to face the anxiety of asking permission

So what is it? Are you a door knocker? Do you travel to far off areas and wear out boot after boot until you find something?Have you worked yourfingersto the bone to afford your own? Do you manage it if you do own it? Do you lease?

Default RE: Effort to find good land

ive been lucky to have a LOT of family connections. probably half of them are farmers, so i have places. I dont really try at all, to be honest.Ive been hunting two of the farms for5 years+ ad have sole permission to hunt these places. Other places ijust have to call them up and let them know when i will be in there.

I hunt with one friend in particular over half of my time out in the woods. the main places we go are My grandpas farm, my uncles farm, or one of his uncles two farms. none are HUGE places, but each place is easily over 100 acres of huntable land, so i cant complain. It does seem that almost every place i hunt is surrounded by hunters on all sides, but maybe thats the case everywhere.[&:]

This coming up year i am going to try a little harder and make some more connections closer to home. I hope to have atleast 7 or 8 places to go to next year, so all my eggs arent in one basket.

After this year i guess i'm going to just get out there and start asking land owner if i can hunt on there property. the woods i hunt now holds some nice buck but withthe guys in the woods next to me i mean they just shoot every thing they see.i guess i'm just going to go to the next county over to see if there woods i could hunt. i mean how do you ask these people. i know thats realy sound stupit but the woods i have hunted i new them so it was easy.

I'm like you Rybo, i almost feel bad at times asking people. We're lucky enough to have a small 30 acre piece back home but i really dont get to hunt it much anymore. Probably 90% of my hunting is done on public land around Chambersburg and Carlisle. Put on the alpha burley's, grab my gps and put on some miles. Its worked out so far...
