Default Spin on the "guided hunt" topic

Most on here claim that guided hunts are "cheating", or "easier" than doing the work yourself.

Well here"s my scenario for you"..put the shoe on the other foot and picture the scenario of bringing in 2-3 hunters into your spot for a week to hunt your stands. How many of you feel they"d have an "easy" time of tagging out? Isn"t this what you are claiming, by going on a guided hunt? That it"s easy?

Ok, so you argue that guides are super genius hunters".but wait, people also argue that anyone could guide on land that was well managed. Well then, wouldn"t it be safe to assume you"d pick nearly those same stand sites if given half a chance to scout the land you are hunting? So in the end you"d be right were you are, sitting on stand waiting for a deer to come by.

What quality of deer are we talking about? Yes i could put them on deer, but only little ones. If outfitter owns enough land and can manage the herd it changes the ball game.

Just look at the success rates they boast about, it says it all.

For the record I am 4/4 now on youth hunts[8D]

I wonder how they can even call it hunting in Texas, where there's a feeder every 40 acres, the land is grazed down to dirt, deer coming out of the woodwork, artificially high populations, legal to hunt out of vehicle..... Sure, maybe there's no high fence, but it sure ain't fair chase the way I see it.

I see your point, but what no one seems to ever account for on this site is that a lot of outfitters do nothing but supply you with land, food, and a bed. Unguided yet outfitted hunts exist. I know b/c that is what I go on for elk, mule deer, and caribou. When I got out of the Marine Corps I swore I was done being uncomfortable when I slept.

Have you ever been to Texas? Let me correct you by saying our land is not dirt, the populations are not as high as you may think, and it is NOT legal to hunt out of a vehicle. Yea, there are a lot of high fenced ranch's and a lot of 50,000 sized low fenced ranches, but that doesn't mean the average Joe's like myself can afford that. I DO hunt over a feeder. But do I hunt over one every hunt? No, in fact I only killed one deer over a feeder this year. Have you ever even say a feeder go off. Deer don't "flock" to it. At least they sure don't to ours.

Edit: After reviewing what I said I have decided to remove some of it. I lost my temper a little bit so I apologize for that. (Nothing that was said was inappropriate, just a Texan getting mad). Seriously though waiting-for-a-gift, try not to stereotype places you have not experienced.

Hey Hey ...who's coming down on Guided Hunts..I mean sure it's different and yes probably easier...But thats because you have to pay for someone to do something!...I had a guy in Southern Ohio "offer" me 1000 acres to hunt.. no guiding, no set stands, just land access, at $200 per day.

Thats pretty steep in my book..now if he had stands and sightings etc..It's cheap. So I dunno it seems like the old case of the have-nots coming down on those that can afford to go.

My only point in the Guided hunt thing is honesty..we see Big deer (Usually the biggest) every year in the contest..if ya check on some web sites you'll see they came from Outfitted Hunts but the "Hunter" never mentions that fact.. Whats the secret?

Have you ever been to Texas? Watch your tongue when your talking about somewhere you have never hunted. Let me correct you by saying our land is not dirt, the populations are not as high as you may think, and it is NOT legal to hunt out of a vehicle. So I will tell you what, you sit in your tree stand and you hunt YOUR state, and stay out of MY states business. Go wait on a gift, maybe you will get the gift of respect.
Well said Jim. While I am not from Texas I have hunted there in the past...in southwest Texas. Gift--it was dirt there b/c I was hunting in the middle of the FREAKIN desert!!

Just for the record I did go to an Outfitter in Texas..And if that feeder goes off after dawn or just before dusk..it's like someone rang a dinner bell!

Maybe a Stereotype...but my expirience.

Thats not saying it was a bad expirience, I saw deer and bucks like you just don't see everyday. I didn't have to give up or swear offany other method of Hunting. All I had to do was go to Texas for 4 Days and enjoy myself with 3 other close companions!

I had the $ I had the Time..it was win/win!

When I went out there I was not with an outfitter. It was at my company's owner's35,000 acre low fence personal ranch. Yep there were feeders but I didn't kill my buck anywhere close to a feeder.

As far as the guided hunts go...you'r paying to hunt in an area that has a better "chance" of shooting a big deer. I live/hunt in NC, I'm just not going to see a booner in the wild. I think there are only 2 or 3 that have ever been killed in the whole state. Just because someone pays to go hunt in Illinois/Iowa/Ohio/Wisconsin does not guarentee a kill. They are still wild animals. Will I go on a guided hunt someday? You betcha! Will I be proud of the deer I killed there? You betcha! The outfitter puts me in the area, I do the rest. A do-it-myself hunt is on the list too!
