Should I Get A Stabilizer?
I have a new bow. A Fred Bear Odyssey, and i was gettin it set up at my local bow shop, and i was gonna by a stabilizer, and the guy said just shoot it a little, and see if you need one. So do you think i should. I still have to shoot it some though.

I really don't know of a compoundbow made that wouldn't feel and shoot better with a stabilizer. They help balance the bow in your hand and at the shot. A good one will also quiet the bow and cut down vibration. Go shoot your bow bare, then screw on a 6 oz stabilizer and shoot a few arrows. Then screw on an 8 oz. one and shoot a few. You WILL notice the difference. Make sure the bow has all the accessories on it you'll have in the woods for these test. Your bow needs one really.
If you don't want one on don't put one on! If you do, then do it. Its not a must have piece of equipment. More of a personal preference thing I would think. When I shot compound I didn't have one on because of the extra weight reasons, especially if your lugging that thing up and down the mountains. I'll admit I shot better with it on though but at the same time I was plenty good with it off, just not as good with it on but still plenty lethal. I'm guessing these new compounds today are balanced allot better then back in my time shooting them. With everything said they are made for a reason though, if you really don't mind the extra weight go for it.
It's not a matter of whether or not you need a stabilizer - it's which one. At a minimum, I would recommend a mini S-Coil. The bow should balance fairly nuetral in your hand. The stabilizer, with different lengths and weights, gives you the ability to tune this aspect of the bow's balance.

I think im gonna get a Mini S-Coil, because its a smaller framed bow, and i cant get it to group for nothin now.
If you need a stabilizer the Mini S coil is not much of one. Best thing to do is shoot several across a wide variety ofdesign, weight, and length categories before you decide.
