Default Missouri Season Proposals

For those of you in MO, they are meeting in Jefferson City to discuss changes to our deer season for next year. If you go to mdc.gov you can find out if there is a "Town Meeting" in your area to voice your opinion. If not, you can download the proposed changes and submit your input via the website. The major change being considered is placing doe season in the middle of October. Although I do not hunt alot on public ground, I am not in favor of having firearm hunting in the middle of archery season, even though we would get another week in November due to the other proposed change of moving firearms season closer to Thanksgiving.

Whatever your thoughts, make them heard!

I have mixed thoughts on the antlerless season. I'm, obviously, a bowhunter and I'm just afraid of deer getting over pressured early. I personally don't start bowhunting til the 3rd week of October. I'm not sure what week in Oct. the antlerless rifle season will be but I feel it has to have some affect. I understand what MDC is trying to produce bigger bucks and a smaller Buck to Doe ratio. At least, they are pushing back the start of the regular rifle season. That, I hope, makes for an exciting time to be in the tree with a bow.Do you know of other states who are currently have there seasons similar to what Missouri is doing?

Only familiar with Illinois other than Missouri, and they have a shorter firearms season. MDC admits that the antler restriction did not get hunters to harvest more does in most of the areas, although I'm all for it. I don't think they are going to get the results they want until there are more hunters that want to eat rather than mount what they shoot.
