Default GPS question

I'm looking to buy a hand-held GPS unit. It requires National Geographic maps to load into it. My question is, can i use my buddies National Geographic maps or do i have to buy sperate software for my own unit? Thanks!

No clue. You might be able to find what your looking for A.T. that other disliked site mentioned in a post here recently. They often have some pretty good deals on them.
