Default Cold weather clothing?

I"™m looking for some new cold weather gear. I have been looking at cabelas MT50 it has 200gr thinsulate in body, 150gr in sleeves and bibs. And it"™s quiet as fleece too. What do you think about it? Any one use it? What else is out there that will work for me?

I go with lot's of layers. 2 or 3 polypro thin baseliners a fleece t-neck over that, a fleece vest, uninsulated goretex outer. This way it's all more flexible. If your outerwear is insulated then it isn't useful in warmer weather.

I agree. The base layer (I use Underarmour Cold Gear) and the Gore Tex outer shell are the foundation of the cold weather layering system. In between those layers, you have a lot of flexibility to use polar fleece or wool to fine tune it to the conditions. But buy the uninsulated Gore Tex parka - and maybe get it a tad large - so you can use it over a wider range of temps.

Check out Gray Wolf Woolens. The best stuff you can buy in the best camo patterns available. I like the Wolfskin w/ Lining...

I would agree to use layers, rather than a super warm/heavy outer shell. I have the MT050 7-in-1 parka and it is nice, but not for bowhunting. Once you put a couple layers on, your movement is really restricted. I purchased the Elite Fleece jacket and bibs from Cabela's this year. The jacket is nice, it has insulation but it is light enough that layering doesn't restrict movement.

I have the 4 x 4 quattro from cabellas fully insulated. removable fleece lining
underneath the jacket. I see that you live in IL and I wouldnt go without some
insulated gear. Under Armour is pretty good stuff for a base layer. The more
clothes you wear though is gonna restrict movement. this 4 x 4 i wear i can move
pretty freely in it.

I'm from IL and hunt in the late season in cold temps and my outer gear is uninsulated. I like the flexibility to add/remove layers as nesesary.
