Default Score this deer... Part 1 in a series.

Ok I have been working on a post / Journal Entry on how to score a rack at home with just basic "tools". This will be the rack I use as I have never posted it's score here before and it is a good example with a couple kicker points.

As for thephone and tree step... I used them to prop the rack up. [8D]

Let's here them.

Right Side.

Left side.

Front view.

161.5
basing that on a 17.5 inch spread and the g2 & G3's ranging between 9.5 & 11 inches.

Gross & counting abnormals

Here's where I admit I have NO experience with anything REMOTELY like this. When I see these type posts....I ONLY have the (up until yesterday) ONE deer I've scored to reference (Which is a 106" deer).

I love to guess.....but that's all it owuld be.

Gross? (and I'm basing this on some I've seen scored, here, online).....I'd have to guess it was 170".....heck maybe 180. So.....as a COMPLETE guess....I'll say 176".

A massive....beautiful rack ....I know that. Congrats to the hunter.

159gross with the abnormal points.

Its also a lot easier to guess the gross score when its actually on the deer's head, rather than just the skull plate. That way you have the size of the head and the ears to help for judging.

WHY would you not count the abnormal points in the "Gross"?
