Default savings of diy it or the cost of supplys

ok i have seen a few post about how to butcher how diys it or drops it off
but is it realy cost effative to diy it when it comes to deer.
heres what i figure it would take me to get the stuff to do it myself
how many of you have spent hundrads or even thousands

Stainless steel work table 200
Good grinder 200
Nice knife kit 50.00
Sausage stuffer 100
Meat slicer 100.00
Good digital scale 50.00
Meat tub 19.99
Smoker 200.00
Cutting boards 40.00
Vacuum sealer I have

Total 960.00
It would tke12 deer at 85 a deer to make it back

Option equipment
Meat band saw 400
Dieghtrater be it a few small modes or big one 150.00
Total 1510
At 85 dollars a deer it would take me 18 deer to make that back

I think I could get everything I need for around 500 if I cut some corners but I would not wont to work with less because then you must by cheaper equipment which would break sooner

I plan to do it myself I plan o have a good supply of what I need for next year

But I am not doing it to save money but because I wont to and think everyone should at least know how

So how much do you guys spend to save the cost for the butcher is it really a cost saving method?

The only thing the butcher does for me is make my sausage or patties from my trimmings. Some day i'll do this myself also.

Stainless steel work table 200 - I got mine for nothing, the local pizza hut didn't want there's anymore and upgraded
Good grinder 200 - 150.00 mine cost me
Nice knife kit 50.00 - Mines a Lansky, i'm not sure what i spent on it
Sausage stuffer 100 - don't have one yet
Meat slicer 100.00 - My knife works just fine!
Good digital scale 50.00 - Why would you need this? Who cares whatthe packages weigh unless your referring to weighing your deer.
Meat tub 19.99 - I use a table. 5.00 at the most
Smoker 200.00 - Don't have one yet
Cutting boards 40.00 - I don't use one. Any kind of thick plastic would do and its much cheaper. I cut mine on a wood finished table, nothing fansy!
Vacuum sealer I have - I have one also,I haven't used mine yet. I'm still using my old packaging paper yet i've got left.

I have a grinder and slicer. Don't use vacuum bags. The cutting boards, knives, etc. get a lot more use than just deer season. I would say my equipment paid for itself years ago. Plus, I love doing it and nobody makes sausage like me.

Of course you can spend as much or as little as you like. We did have to buy a freezer.

We fondue most of our odds and ends so don't make sausage or patties.

You have to look at it as an investment for the future. If you don't already have the majority of the equipment, of course the first year will seem expensive. After that, its gravy.

I've never taken a deer to the butcher, so I honestly can't comment on how much money its saved us over the years. Its enjoyable to know that I've done everything along the way, all the work. Satisfying, I suppose.

We got a freezer, but it comes in very handy for many things. During Thanksgiving, we get a couple of turkeys when they are dirt cheap and it makes for great soups and dinners all winter long.

i will not do it for money i will do it for he fact of doing it and so if god forbid one day the show jericho realy happens i will be able to feed my family when the grid goes down there wont be to many butchers around

i know that sounds crazy but think about whats going on in the world and if a mrs clinton get the oval office

andanother thing i can see it saving you i i hear alot of guys sayinghow the butcher keeps ome of the meat and mixe 5 guys deer togather

i know a guy who buys a cow every so often and did take it to a local butcher usasly his freezer was not quit full
well one day his buddy butcher did it for him and he ran out of room he aid the butcher most have keep like 20 or 40 pounds
