Alright guys, what grain hunting arrow are you using. I've been running the numbers and ideas through my head. I think next year I'm going to try a "lighter", higher FOC setup. Let's see what you guys are using.

Mine weighs in at about 390 grains and has FOC of 11%. For me it seems to be the perfect balance of speed and weight. They fly great.

ACC's 3-49's measuring 27" with Blazers and 100 grain heads come in at 381 grains. The Allegiance is spitting them out at 305 fps. I haven't chrono'd the Marquis or General yet, waiting on DL modules.

ahh i forget the numbers now...think im at 460ish with tracer nocks...430ish without...

crunched numbers for hours one day....came up with 450-500gr to be optimal for the most speed and most KE out of my bow. more weight lowered speed and only bumped up KE slightly...less weight took KE and gave me only a tad more speed...found that area to be the balancing point...arrows fly great and penetration seems awesome...

Well, this year, I'm going to try a lighter, speed demon setup. Fran has kind of "inspired" me to go a little against the grain. I'm not going nearly as radical as he did. But I'm looking at roughly a 320-325gr arrow, with 16%+ FOC. Being shot between 320-330fps. Producing around 74-78ft/lbs of energy at 63lbs. I can already hear the "wait til you hit a shoulder" comments, but I'm pretty positive this setup will work, and after seeing Quick blow through 2 bucks with even a lighter setup, I'm convinced. With the high FOC I think it'll be a SWEET shooter.

I'm at 499 grains. I get 260 fps with these heavy arrows. That's plenty fast since a long shot for me is 25 yards. Penetration is not a problem. I've never not had a passthrough. And my bow seems to shoot quieter with the heavier arrows. I shot 373 grain arrows out of the same bow and you could hear the difference. Definitely a little louder. I could shoot 295 with these light arrows, but I like a quieter 260 with a ton of momentum better. And it's easier to group fixed blade broadheads at 260 vs 295 fps.
