You shoot a deer in the wind pipe and miss the spine or jugular vein, it'll run off and you'll never find it. It will die a long and horrible death. The shot is so low percentage wise it should never be considered.[:'(]

This buck was shot through the neck with a shotgun slug. It died 5 weeks after it was shot. (and it picked under my tree as the spot to die)It died from a combination of starvation andinfection. (note the pus around the mouth and entrance wound)

I disagree. I accidentally hit this buck in the neck (arrow deflected). He ran MAYBE 15-20 yards, and was dead in seconds. There was blood everywhere. It was an accident, though, and would NEVER try to hit a deer in the neck.
