RE: Scared of Bedding Area
Thanks for the quick response. I guess it's good that I won't be able to get out again till this coming Saturday, which will be a week since my disturbance. I was partially scent blocked....All my clothes were, and my boots, but the coat I threw on wasn't my normal hunting coat...that I keep in a big zip lock bag with my bibs.
I only have access to public hunting land, and I don't think many people realize deer are bedding down this way because I never see any trucks around this spot...nor anywhere close...and the access to this land is up another mile.
I've learned my lesson regarding scouting...and while I'll still be doing some scouting during this season...I'm trying not to disturb the deer too much. I do plan on scouting a lot after the season is over...as you mentioned. I've started marking up a topo map to get an idea of where things are...and where trails are headed. There's quite a bit of land along this river bed...much of it in the back of the park...so I'm thinking there may be many more excellent bedding areas people aren't aware of.
My next hunt will be a morning hunt..so I plan on setting up between the field and the bedding area. I don't want to get too close to the field...nor too close to the bedding area (so I can still walk out without being noticed). How close to the field, without disturbing them, can I get when I know they're in there??
Another quick question...sorry..I'm full of them when it comes to deer hunting.... do deer eat winter wheat?? The field that was a corn field now has winter wheat growing in it. Do you think these deer are still feeding on the excess corn, or the winter wheat that's growing??
Thanks again...your help is much appreciated.
