I've got a Question.. On Average, How many Does will a MATURE BUCK BREED during a season?

From what I've read and learned.....

Does will be in estrous, on average, over a period of a couple to three weeks. A buck will stay with a hot doe and breed her over and over for a couple of days at a time. So.....assuming he's a super-buck....he could breed as many as 10. My "guess" is the number is lower than that (6-7) in most areas, though.

I'm sure someone will set me straight if my info is inaccurate.

I think GMMAT is right on target. I've read about monitoring studies, and it was learned that some younger bucks do some breeding too. There are a lot of variables. I wonder if a buck needs any recovery time after breeding. I've talked with dog breeders who report that their dog isn't worth a crap for a couple days after breeding. They don't breed them during hunting season for that reason.

I usually need a recovery period.. But sometimes I don't.. Depends..

I don't think a doe is hot for no where near that long. More like 72 hrs.

Actually it is 24-48 hours. I would think a mature buck could probably breedquite a fewdoes in a normal rut period of a couple weeks, but 10 seems a bit much. Guess it depends how dominant, how much area, and how much fighting.
