Bowhunting, I'm quiet, clean, as scent free as possible, and still,....... but then I go rifle hunting this weekend, with little regard for that stuff, and a nice one walks within 5 yards of me, and never sees me.

Generally (and, I stress, generally) rifle season is a whole new ball game. The increased hunter activity tends to knock them out of normal patterns and can distract them more easily. Two years ago I had three doe walk within ten yards of me WHILE A LOCAL STRAY CAT WAS LICKING MY BOOTS! One doe was so close I could have poked her in the ribs with my shotgun.
