RE: Dear GR8....
I tell ya..I hunted that farm the 2 nights following the initial sighting. I could not get to "that" stand due to unfavorable winds so I had to skirt the area I figured he traveled. No luck. 3 doe kept me in the stand way late Friday night!
So Saturday I head to my Public land (cuz this farm isn't big enough for an all day hunt). I see 4 deer at 7:30 am a Doe and 3 of this years deer (2BB and a young doe)..long story short...the Old doe spots me (not scented but seen) no shots.
But now it's getting mid-day and no more action. So it's 1:00pm and the wind would be perfect for an afternoon sit on the Piebald farm. I climb down, hike out, drive the 20 or so miles home to the neighborhood farm. Pull in and GASP! sometime last night (Fri)or this morning (Sat) all the corn is gone! They took most of it early in the month but the 50 or so acres that were left was the "cover". So I climb up knowing that the next 3 hours will produce nothing..and it didn't. There is still a chance I can catch him in a travel route through the area, but honestly it's bleak at best.
I'll be honest in this area..I have seen no chasing since late Oct or very first of Nov. The doe and family groups seem to be back together. These doe groups come out and not a buck in sight. I hate to one of these guys who declare "it" over but there is some lull or the bucks are hooked up. The chasing period was early and as hard as I've seen in recent years but man it just went dry that fast!
I'm hopeful he's still out there in the area..andhe dodges themassive Mennonite deer drives during gun season. I just want a picture..anything...!
I hope to hunt that area tomorrow I need a lot of luck!
