I try to be in 45-60 minutes before first light. If they may be moving 20-30 minutes before light, I want to be all settled in and watching when they do.

I'm usually in the tree 45 minutes before "first light." First light is usually before legal shooting time. Get in there early, let things settle down, and just listen to the woods.

30-45 minutes is usually good for me just just enough time to get settled into the treeand quiet.

Today I got in my stand at 5:50 and it opened at 6:06. I had a doe and a fawn come under my stand right away. I wasn't inthere 5 minutes. I gotta get up earlier tommorow.

I love setting in a tree, or ground blind during the dark and try to identify what animals are makeing noises around me.
