Default Rut in Va??

I thought it was coming, but it seems to be slow, not much going on. Even pre-rut activity, rubs, scrapes, etc not much there either. Anyone notice this in the area of NC, MD, Va, KY???

I've been seeing quite a bit of scraping and rubbing and even bucks bird dogging does around but I feel like the best is yet to come. Cold snap this weekend along with a new moon week (Nov. 7-12) = Game On!!!

Now I just need to get in the woods.

Where don't I hunt? I hunt a little in Chesapeake / VA Beach, Dinwiddie County, Zuni, Lynchburg, Appomattox/Buckingham, Eastern Shore(Accomac, Melfa), and quite a bit in NC as well. Have gun/bow.....will travel (I've adopted that as my motto).

Work sucks this week because I would much rather be in the woods but with the kids, the holidays coming, andlife in general I came to the conclusion, after much deliberation, thatI can't just quit and hunt.[:@]

Ok I remember talking to you before. Where do you live? I understand all to well with the kid and wife thing. My friends that don't have kids do not understand at all..

I live in Chesapeake and the land I hunt in Dinwiddie is our family farm(100 acres) with our hunting cabin (I live there a lot during late season). It's turn of the century but we have added good stuff like electricity, hot water, Xbox, DVD, you know the "essentials". I hunt areas with more deer but this time of year I will start hunting the farmmore to hunt with my pops and take some friends.

It's funny I don't really miss being single and running around but this time of year those guys (my buddies) that are still "free"don't know how good they have got it. But I wouldn't trade lives with any ofem' for the world.

I keep athread in the Regional-South forum about sightings, weather, rut, etc. Just some stuff from my field journal.

Hey Guys,

I have to hunt most of the time in No. VA because of work and family committments. It is just easy to get out before and after work. I have been seeing a lot of Rutting activity and I think the next 3 or 4 days will be the best. Good Luck.

Virginia Mike, I saw some chasing this morning here in Northern Virginia. They are starting to move. The next 3-4 days is gonna be primetime.

Im going this afternoon and sat. Yeh, I envy those single no kids guys this time of year, but, they don't get to come to a warm little 2yr old boy with his arms open saying, "daddy, daddy, you kil a big buck?" Swear to you, he says it everytime I come back from hunting. My other one is still too young to say anything, but his face says it all. I let you guys know what I see, we need some more Va bucks on here, Pa is kicking butt.. Ive got 2 on here, my buddy has one, you guys got any??
