Ever watch the pros on tv miss a chip shot?
Then you ask yourself, how did he miss that deer?
Well, I did it Saturday morning.
I missed what would have been my best.
While I've killed one with more points, he was definintely bigger in mass and length, a big solid 8 about ear wide.
He did what deer do sometimes...not what you expected.
He took a different path that I hadn't seen one take and wasn't exact on the yardage.
I thought he was around 25 yds, so I held dead on.
My arrow flew straight and he jump kicked.
I thought it looked low, but maybe a low heart hit.
He went 20 yds and just stood there, but out of range.
I watched for blood, but none.
Finally, he began to walk off, so I figured it was all or nothing.
For the next 15 minutes or so I grunted him back to about 35 yds, but he was behind some trees.
He then circled a bit a caught my wind and was gone.
After that I stayed in the tree and passed up to young bucks.
When I got to my arrow, there was a good bit of 1 inch long white hair.
You know, the kind right begind the front leg and below the heart.
My arrow had no blood or sign of flesh on it, which I was relieved about.
I had shaved his chest right below the kill zone.
I had used my 25 yd pin but when I stepped it of, I came to 31 yds. Just that little bit of drop is all I missed hitting him square in the heart and bottom of the lungs.
I think it is the Matthews commercial that says, when in doubt, add 2 yds.
If I had done that...well I'd be posting pics.
Oh well, you live and learn.
There is still almost 2 weeks of bow season before the guns start going off.
Maybe I can get him or one better.
A clean miss is better than wounding him. You have 2 more weeks to get another and it's primetime to do so right now. Good luck and put the miss behind you!

They are not "PROS", they are television personalities (well not all and some are) however, I've seen some terrible shooters on their, especially when they just show them target shooting....
Anyone can miss, ask Randy Ulmer how many deer he's missed, how about the Ragsdales? We all can miss. I'd put my ability up against almost anyone on tv in target archery....I've missed...lol It happens, shooting at 3D targets and real live animals are two entirely different things.
