Yo all, This is Matt posing as Greg. LOL
Just a quick update before we get to sleep for the night on our 8 days hunt here in Southern Illinois:
Saturday: we hunted 2 different spots in the AM. Greg was on a Wildlife Refuge draw hunt and I was on the bordering public land hoping the onslaught of guys entering the draw area would send a buck my way.
I did have a pretty 4pt come by around 8 AM with the nicest looking cape I've ever seen. 2 big beautiful double throat patches absolutely snow white. Greg didn't see anything but other hunters so we pulled the sets and hunted one of our farms that evening.
Saturday evening Greg was surrounded by turkeys, and one button buck while I had an exciting evening with one big ol' doe who just didn't want to die.

I drew on her 3 times and never did get a shot even though she came to within 5 yards.
Right before dark I had a beautiful buck slip along but he spent too much time dilly dallying around in the staging area at about 25 yards facing me. When he finally slipped by at 15 yards I couldn't make anything out but his bone white antler frame. I was guessing a solid 130" 8pt but I never did study his rack beyond......[:-]........get the bow. LOL
Today (Sunday) I slipped back into that stand hoping to catch that buck heading back to bed as the wind was still favorable. No such luck but I did have 4 yearlings and a spike around me for hours as well as probably the same flock of turkeys Greg was playing with the night before.
A few pleading yelps, clucks and kee kees had the whole flock right under me looking for the lost bird.

Should have bought that turkey tag as there were some nice fat Jakes mixed in.
Greg didn't see anything.
Sunday night, we hunted a new property where the farmer told us of a big buck that worked out into the picked inside corner of a cornfield so I set up on him hoping he'd do the same tonight.
No such luck but I did have a big beautiful Bobcat at 12 yards, and then a basket raked 6 or 8 slipped by at last light ending the nights events. As thw eather has been warming the deer sightings are getting a little later. Tuesday is calling for cold weather for the rest of the week so we should be in the chips!
Greg had a spike and fork horn come by at 20 yards but not any target bucks.
(In case you don't know us by now, I'm the good looking one......Greg's the short one.

)
Tomorrow we are sleeping in and then going to go hang 2 or 3 sets to use the rest of the week and hunt tomorrow night. We should have another update tomorrow and hopefully some buck pics shortly.
Over and out.
