I bought my son (8 yrs. old) a Darton Ranger. It is set @ 16-18 lbs and is adjustable up to 45lbs. As long as he doesn't get huge (no one else in the family is ) the daw length shoule be adjustuble enough to hold him well into his pre teens. At 45 lbs. it will get him into the begining deer hunting stage when he is legal age (12 in PA). Bow set up with sights, peep, stablizerand a coupe of arrows was aroung $300. Count on some additional $ for accessories but those make make good ideas for Christmas and B-day preasents. Good luck, it is a great time to start.
