Default Weirdo in the woods.(Long)

I don't know if this is the right thread but I have to tell this story. I was bow hunting on My Land when I heard something behind me. I looked back and say some guy in a straw hat carrying a rifle about 150yds behind me. I yelled to get his attention but he didn't notice. He then proceded to fire two shots into a downed tree. I finally got his attention and he walked over under my stand. I asked him what the h*ll he thought he was doing and he immediately told me to get off his land. I proceeded to tell him that the land belonged to me, not only that but I live with my parents on the land. The house is 1/3 mile from my stand. I told him he needed to leave right away before I called the police/DNR, he then told me he would leave as soon as he checked on his baboo plant. He then walked off in the opposite direction from the road. I let him walk off adn got down from my stand. I walked out to the road to see were he parked but I didn't see a car anywhere. So on the walk back to the house I called the DNR and reported him and gave them the best description I could. Do you guys think this guy was on some kind of drugs, or just crazy. Sorry I'm not hip to current terms but is "Bamboo" a slang term for marijuana?

Never heard that one. He might have been just playing dumb. Than again maybe he was dumb or messed up. Anyway I'm sure you don't want him there you did right by calling DNR

Nothing worse than a crazy trespasser. Be careful, lots of weirdos out there. Sounds like someone from overseas that doesn't know and doesn't care whose land is whose. People from Wisconsin can share a pretty awful story that happend up there a year or two ago when several people were gunned down by one these guys after they had more than one confrontation with this guy. Be strong but be ready for anything. Use lawenforcement if youcan and takeyour cell phone when yourhunting. Tell your neighbors to be on the lookout for him and his vehicle.

That is a bad deal. Like someone said I'd be very careful.

Um, anyone carrying a weapon in fireing condition(always assume such), firing into a tree on MY land, wouldnt get a warning. What if he was on drugs or did have a controled substance plant growing on your property ?

I would have just shot him. Who knows what he was capable of. Also, I have no idea what a Bamboo tree means in slang, but I know what bamboo is. Id call the Police and let them know what transpired and that you fear that this gentleman may have planted a controled substance on your land. Also, reference your immediate phone call to the DNR.

I would wait until after the season, just so those cops dont trample through your huntin' woods and run off your next Booner !!

My ahts off to you, that was a mature decision, I would have just let him have it after seeing him fire randomly into a tree, and ESPECIALLY after what he said about leaving after he checks his freakin tree.

My land=him dead !!
Even though its illegal in IN I normally have my handgun on stand with me on my land. I didn't today because I was in a hurry to get into the woods. If I had had my gun with me I almost definitley would have held him into the police got there. But seeing as I was 20 ft up a tree with nothing but I bow I was trying to avoid confrontation. Just awhile ago I called the sheriff (he's a family friend). And he sayed there had been another call about a trespasser carrying a gun just down the road from my land. So hopefully the police will pick him up since it appears that he is on foot it shouldn't be to hard to find him.

This guy was your typical redneck with his straw hat hooded sweatshirt on under his overalls. And I had my cell phone with me I called the DNR as soon as I waa about 200yds from my stand. When I was walking out to the road I was hoping to tell the DNR people his Plate Number but I couln't locate his car becuase apparently he had walked from where ever he came from.

I would definitely bring your gun and having it ready to shoot but I would completely disagree with some of above about shooting the guy. There is no one that dislikes tresspassers more than me but the man doesn't deserve to lose his life because he is tresspassing. Hold him till the cops come. You can always let the leadfly over in his direction to make him nervous about huntingin that spot again. Think twice about shooting him. What if you miss from your stand, you're going to be a sittingduckfor him to take you out.
