Default New guy here with a few questions

Hello, I'm new to bow hunting. I have been a firearm hunter for about 5 years. I'm looking to hunt mostly whitetail and black bear. I'm totally new to the bow stuff.

I got measured up so I know my draw length and weight. I have narrowed my search to two bows, the Fred Bear Element and the Martin Cheetah Mag. Both 2007's.The price between the two is small enough not to matter.

I like the Martin's looks a little more and it a little faster, but I have heard that the axle to axle length is too small for a beginner. It's 30.5" and the Bear is 32", is there that big of a difference? And someone else to be to get a bow at 36".

If anyone has any input on these two bows it would be great, I plan on making my purchase next weekend.

Welcome to the forums. Regardless of which bow you choose remember that hunting with a bow takes A LOT of practice. Are you planning to hunt this season?

Welcome to the forums. Now go out and get either of them, make sure they are left handed and then trade with me. My boy is about 36" and broke in, so you should have no problem with it!

I like bows that are in the 34-36" range that is just whatI seem to shoot the best. It is different for everyone but on average the longer bows will be more forgiving. Be sure to shoot them both before you buy and see which one you like best and don't plan on hunting this year with your new bow unless you have shot with a bow before because it will take some time to become proficiant with it. Good Luck!

If you can, shoot the bows. What works for you might be different for others. The best bow, is the best bow for you. Meaning, the bow that fits you best and feels best, is the best bow. Once you get it, have someone tune it for you. Its also good to lear how to tune yourself. Then read along here and use the search to find info on shooting form, tuning broadheads, releases/finger use, etc. etc. . Then practice, practice, practice. And be prepared to be very patient.

By the way, welcome.

Ive found in moder compounds, axle to axle is not as important as it was in the old days of the round wheels. What they mean by forgiving is; longer limbs usually will forgive form mistakes made when you shoot. Like I said, with todays bows and the new rests, it not as big of a factor. Now for trad bows, it is very true. Longer limbs on arecurve or long bow will be more forgiving.
