Default Ok tell me where I whent rong

I whent out hunting last weekend a 4 point buck came in I shot but hit high I think about 2in under the back bone the arow whent in about 2/3 of the way and stoped I knew this was a bad shot. So I dident start tracking him for 3 or 4 hours I whent out there is a solded blood trail with dark red blood. But then the trail got to be one big spot then a buch of little drops and repeat. after about 3/4 of a mile of tracking the deer in the woods the blood trail I lost it and then I found one big spot of blood about a foot and a half wide then the blood trail got crappy and from what I could find for blood the trail ended at the river about on little spot of blood 15 feet away from the river was the last blood. This was a thick swampy area the deer was in there was a dryed of crick bed there too but we couldent find the deer its like it was just gone.

He's probably fine. There have been a few people on here that have shared similar stories this season with the same outcome - spot the buck a few days later acting like a dork around a couple of does. Shoot a few targets to build your confidence back up and get out there!

sounds to me like you were pushing him...sounds like the big spots were places where he bedded down...exspecially the last foot and a half wide spot of blood...if thats the case, id bet hes dead out there somewhere. only 2 bow hit deer i helped track that were hit too high NEVER bedded and never left "alot" of blood...they bled...but just enough to follow..but never bedded and both went ~400yds. 1 of the deer was mine...i KNOW my arrow hit to high...i watched my lighted nock hit him too high...i still gave it my all...knew it was lungs or nothing so i gave him about an hour and a half...400yds and 4hr later, no deer...6 or so person man search for a good solid mile or more around the area turned up nothing the next day...im confident that deer lived...almost posative he got killed in flintlock season...

tough call on yours...sounds to me like you jumped him from beds...he could be dead...id keep lookin

good luck

I would be surprised if he is not laying dead somewhere. Sounds like he bled quite a bit. I would try a spiral pattern from that last blood spot.

3-4 hours on a bad shot is a little soon. The large blood spots are where he either stopped or bedded. He is dead IMO. Good luck finding him.

I don't necessarily agree. I think you hit the backstraps ABOVE the spine. Below the spine you would have found him in that distance. Muscle hits will act like that, bleed like crazy at the start and then slow down. Deer can loose alot more blood than we give them credit for. Depending on how fast the blood trail started to diminish he really didn't loose as much as you think.
