Default Calling

I have heard a lot about calling on here and since i already have two bowkills this yeari am wanting to experiment. I have a grunt, can, and rattle bag. I have seen signs of deerfighting in the feild that runs along my woods, so i would like to try and call one in. I am not sure how often or when to use these calls.I experimented the other night with just blind calling and had no results. Any input would be welcomed. Thanks

Default RE: Calling

My hunting style involves a lot of calling.Ihave called in bucks from over 150 yards (just did so this past weekend). I don't rattle much because I've never had success with it. I feel like it does more harm than good, for ME.

Grunting and "canning" is something I do a lot. Once the rut kicks in I usually can call and then immediately grunt call. I've called in a couple bucks with this method. This past weekend I spotted a buck about 150 yards out and grunted. I had grunted nearly 20 times to keep him interested and to spark curiousity. He came in right under my stand but I ended up hitting too low. However, there is such a thing as overcalling so don't let my story influence you to overcall.

When I blind call, I will grunt 3-4 times (loudly depending on terrain setup) every 15-20 minutes. Just remember, you may have a buck 40 yards away but he may not always hear that call. That is why I tend to increase the volume a bit when I call.

Do deer calls work? -yes

Do deer call work all the time? -no

No problem! All I have to say is to give it a shot. Good luck!
