This morning I woke up all stiff and sore. Temperature changed quite a bit yesterday and my arthritis was reminding me that I am not the young man I used to be. Decided to take a day of rest and will be back out in the morning. I walked down to the pond and got into the john boat to see if fish were biting. The sun had just started peaking over the hilltop and its warmth felt good in the cold air. Spent 4 hours out in the boat and spent more time watching the hillsides than I did the bobber.
This afternoon, I sat on the three season porch and scanned the opposite side of the pond for hours on end. Didn't see anything move during the normal "noon mill", nothing. This evening, I drove down the lane to where I can see the deer move across the neighbors property. Sat there scanning the fields with no sucess until 6:45 PM. It was 30 minutes before dark before the deer started out of the woods.
Tomorrow I'll be back in the stand. Saturday I'll be there again (if needed). Hopefully before my leave ends on Sunday, I'll have filled my first tag for the year.
Good luck to all and sorry for the long story leading up to the subject line.
