Nope. I'm a better shot with my bow anyway.
I'm not worried about someone trying to steal the meat I've got on the ground. If they want it bad enough to try to take if from an ape like me, then they're pretty darned desperate and probably need it. I'm more worried about ARA wackos than I am thieves.

No. In Indiana it is illegal while bowhunting, even if it were I wouldn't.
Possesion of a handgun during the commission of a crime is a felony = loss of gun ownership. I'm sorry, I'll keep my gun rights and live to fight the theif(ves) another time; like when they arrive at their vehicle and POOFF the radiator seems to have blown-up!
Once I'm out of the woods in this scenario, my bow goes in the truck and I'm packing then. Bet ya I'm there before they can get the deer taken care of.
Shoot often - Hunt always

I was bowhunting for hogs on my lease in Northwest Florida last year and had a VERY, VERY close encounter with a bear. If it would have attacked, their was nothing I could have done. Needless to say, legal or not, I no longer leave home without one.

I don't own one, but have borrowed one to take with me while scouting, and one time that I needed to go get a stand I had left up near property purchased by some wild shooters. They had previously shot to scare off my friends children and they were on their own property. They weren't there when I went to get my stand, but I was ready. Not that I would have shot them, but I wanted something easy to carry and would get their attn if needed..Baretta 9mm

I think the more important question is why would anyone live in a community where you felt it necessary to carry a handgun? There are still lots of safe places to live and hunt in the world, believe it or not. I've never seen anything in the bush which I would consider a threat. In the city, I'm really not that interested in getting into a gunfight. When was the last time you heard of a citizen successfully defending themselves against an attack using a gun (except maybe on FOX TV!)

borealboy, that's what the gun control freaks want you to think. It's proven that in areas where concealed carry is legal, crime rates are down. And people are not playing gun fighter in the streets. People can't always live where crime is non-existent. It exists everywhere, just less in some areas. I have a son that has special needs. We must take him to the hospital on the east side of Cleveland. Guess what, I don't go there otherwise. But if I want the best care for my son, I have no choice. I do as I see fit to protect my family. You're lucky to be insulated from the low rats of the world. Hope you can stay home always.

As soon as you decide all is safe, that's the instant you wind up with 'Victim' plastered in the middle of your forehead and you're fair game for the bad guys. NOWHERE is totally safe.
By the way, I have used a gun to defend myself, my family and my home on 5 different ocassions. Fortunately, all those cowards have run like scalded cats when I showed the gun, so I've never had to fire it at any of the creeps.... at least, not yet. But each time I've prayed that it would be the last time.
Hope you never get acquainted with the real world, borealboy.

I've read through a few of these posts and I am struggling to find a adjective to describe my thoughts.....hmmmm, how about ridiculous! You guys are carrying a handgun for fear of getting your deer taken?!?!?! So then what, you engage in a gun battle out in the woods so you can have some horns on your wall? Wow. You have a better chance of needing that gun to prevent getting carjacked on your way to your truck when you head out on your hunting trip.
This is a complete head shaker. It seems to me like ya'll are living in fear. If somebody wanted my deer bad enough to track me down and pull out their gun and threaten me in the middle of nowhere, TAKE IT!!!
It always cracks me up when people say things like, "my buddies friends dog who humped his neighbors cousins leg had a step brother who had his deer taken at gunpoint last year....I'm not having the same thing happen to me."
Just my two cents.
