Default Deer in CRP field strips.

I have an opportunity to put some land into the CRP program. I plan on mixing some CRP vegetation with a few clover strips. Any of you hunt CRP areas near timber, how is it? Any pro's or con's of being involved in CRP?

I hunt alot of CRP while Pheasant hunting in Nebraska. There are a few of them that have some brush/trees in them and tall grass next to the thickets. There are usually deer in them all the time. I find lots of deer beds in the tall stuff out in the middle of the CRP fields.

Sorry if this is a dumb question but what exactly is CRP? I have not heard this term before. Thanks!

I am not sure of the the exact term but it is basically a field set aside to grow native grasses or some type of grass and not be used for crops. It provides habitat for birds and other wild game.

Conservation Reserve Program. Around here, it is set up with the NRCS. Any land that was once farmed may be turned into tall native grasses, switch grass, wild flower type vegetation. They also have different types of programs for wetlands and creatingshallow water facilities for waterfowl. It is a 10-15 year contract and the government will pay you 90% of your expenses creating the habitat and a yearly rate say average of $100 per acre per year to keep the habitat in a "CRP"

All my land is in CRP. Except that on the river. No real difference. They will not eat the grass, but when natural forbs start to grow, they will feed there. If you put out clover, they will eat that for sure.

Parrot, has it worked out for you? Does the cash flow come in easy from the Gov.?
