How to Field Dress
Hello All,
I tried to do a search on this topic, but to no avail. I was wondering if someone could walk me through field dressing a deer. This is my first year hunting and on my first trip, I had some company in case I got one, but on Saturday I am going out myself in the AM. I am told that where I am going, I am bound to get a chance to harvest one. Any help would be great. I think I have the basics down, but any advise I'm sure would help.
Thanks.
Aaron

AO- The pictures that Bowfever suggested are good and easy to follow. Just remember to take you time and work "SLOW". If your still shaking and excited wait before you start cutting. Your first one will be difficult but not impossible. If you make a mistake don't let it bother you. My first one was a nightmare!!! Just remember that with a little practice they get better and easier. Good Luck tommorow!!!!!!!!!!

I've got a 3" folding buck knife that has a small "wyoming" hook blade. Talk about making the process easier.
It's like unzippering the deer.
Anus & pelvic bones can be a hassle though.

Okay bad one, the links posted are good and will give you the idea. Just take your time and if nervous sit back and relax. The gut hooks are a great idea for the beginner, you can pick up a dress/skinner at walmart for under 10 bucks, that works okay if you already have a knife. It is also a lot easier if you get a special serraded pelvis saw, this will allow you to get the pooper out without any meat interaction. (basically they are 3" long look like a T and have a plastic tip to prevent puncture.) Really cheap as well like 10 bucks at most gun shops.
