Default Just on of those days to remember !

From time to time we all have something like this happen. I haven't been seeing any Buck sign on the 150 acres I've been hunting the last 3 weeks so I decided to a woods behind my house that I had permission to hunt but never have. Sunday I did a couple hours of scouting, and boy did I like what I saw. Scrapes and rubs everywhere! I put up a stand and didn't have time to cut shooting lanes. That night it snows 3". The next day I have an extra hour so I run out and cut shooting lanes. Theres already tracks all over the place around my stand. I couldn't wait to hunt Tuesday! Tuesday I leave the house going to my stand, I usually always have an arrow nocked when coming or going to my stand. Today I didn't because I decided to carry my coat so I didn't get overheated on the way out. I cross alittle 20 yard feild and get 10 yards into the woods and a Nice 6 pt buck stands up right in front of me at 10 yards! WOW! Right away I knew I wasn't prepared to shoot and I'm looking for a trophy anyway, so I watch it run away. I get to my stand and get everything set-up and in place. Then I realize I fogot my release!!!!!!!! I decide to run back to the house and get it. I leave EVERYTHING in the tree. I start back walking fast(and the snow is crunchy). I get to the spot I jumped the Nice 6 point. Suddenly I notice a tree moving all over the place. I stop, 25 yards to my left a HUGE buck is ripppping a tree to shreds! There I stand with no bow!!!! He's so into it, and so loud he dosen't even know I'm there. I watch for a moment in awe, and keep going to get my release. On the way back I don't see the buck so I assume it moved down aways. Once again I get to the spot a saw both of these deer, and the Huge buck stands up and looks at me at 20 yards! We stare at each other for 10 seconds and he runs. I return to my stand for the last 2 hours till evening. I see some does.

Hope I still get a crack at the big one. I got a 10 pt that scored 135 a few years back and this one was every bit as big!

I learned many years ago to be ready for anything at all times. I forgot my own rule. Just alittle wake-up. I'll be ready from now on!
